Tamayouz Excellence Award announces the shortlist for its Dewan Award for Architecture 2024

Tamayouz Excellence Award is proud to announce the shortlist of finalists for its Dewan Award for Architecture 2024. The shortlist comprises the top 20 submissions received this year for the award’s seventh cycle.

The finalists were selected from 188 submissions received from 34 countries this year. The choice was made by the competition’s technical team, which consisted of the senior management and design team at Dewan Architects + Engineers. Their decision was based on the criteria outlined in the award’s brief, which invited participants to submit proposals to design “Iraq’s Pavilion for a Global Exposition” at the Baghdad International Fairgrounds, shaping Iraq’s narrative on the global stage.

Dewan Award for Architecture - Shortlisting Panel

The Commended pavilion designs responded to the site’s conditions and represented Iraq’s significance, its rich history and culture, the aspirations of its people, and the challenges they have overcome.
The shortlisting committee further appreciated submissions, and among the impressive number of entries received, we noticed a high level of research, project understanding, and innovation. After two rigorous rounds of evaluation, the Top 20 entries were selected based on solid architectural responses, comprehensive site planning, realism, and thoughtful sensitivity to cultural, sustainable, and environmental contexts, demonstrating true alignment with project objectives.

The judging panel for the Dewan Award for Architecture, consisting of renowned architecture, engineering, planning, and design experts, will evaluate the top 20 finalists to select the top three winners and honourable mentions. The first prize will be fully paid employment at Dewan for six months, extendable to one year, or a sum of $6,000; the total sum of prizes given in this cycle of the award is $10,000.
