Dr Mohamed Saleh Makiya the founder of the Baghdad School and the pioneer of regional architecture was awarded the Tamayouz Lifetime Achievement Award in architecture.
Tamayouz Lifetime Achievement award is Iraq’s most prestigious architecture prize, it aims to celebrate the pioneers of Iraqi Architecture.

The announcement took place during the 2nd annual Tamayouz Excellence ceremony hosted by the University of Kurdistan Hewler in Erbil.

Ahmed Al-Mallak, the Founder of Tamayouz Excellence Award announced that Dr Mohamed Saleh Makiya (1914) is the recipient of the inaugural Tamayouz Lifetime Achievement award in architecture for the impact of his celebrated and lasting contribution to Iraqi architecture, the establishment of Baghdad School of Architecture and his mentoring of generations of aspiring Iraqi architects. Dr Makiya was unable to attend the ceremony but he accepted the prize in an address recorded in his London residence, the address was played during the award ceremony.

The 2nd Annual Tamayouz Excellence Award ceremony is a milestone in both Iraqi and regional architecture, two of the celebrated awards were celebrated for the first time in the Middle East including the Lifetime Achievement Award.
