Last week, I had the opportunity to speak to students at the University of Duhok. I was invited by Lawand Kamal, a teaching and research assistant at the university, to join his seminar on the Tamayouz Award’s programme. Lawand aimed to inspire his students to showcase their projects on a global stage, extending their reach beyond the university halls.
Reflecting on my own journey with Tamayouz, I remembered the excitement and nerves of my first competition. This recollection fueled my enthusiasm to share what I had learned. Joelle Deeb, the second prize winner of the International Graduation Projects Award 2023, joined me. Currently an intern at Dewan Architects + Engineers in Dubai—a position she secured as part of her prize—Joelle shared her experiences with Tamayouz as well.
During an engaging presentation and open discussion, I shared my journey from college to the present, highlighting how Tamayouz not only enhanced my ability to express design ideas but also positively impacted my professional career. I emphasized that the value of participating in such competitions goes beyond winning. It enriches one’s portfolio, provides valuable experience, and broadens perspectives by exposing participants to global standards and creativity.
I look forward to more conversations with students in my country and around the world, hoping to inspire and learn in equal measure.
