Muscat, Oman – Under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Dr Fahad bin Al-Julanada, Tamayouz Excellence Award, one of the most recognized architecture awards, recently celebrated its 10th anniversary with a grand ceremony in Muscat, Oman, on January 17, 2023. The ceremony, held at the InterContinental hotel, was attended by architects from around the world and featured keynote speeches from prominent architects, artists, urban planners and public figures.
Established in 2012 by Ahmed Al-Mallak, Tamayouz Excellence Award is the first architecture awards programme to emerge from Iraq and has since grown to be a leading platform in bridging cultures. During the ceremony, the winners of 2020, 2021, and 2022 Tamayouz Awards were celebrated, and an exhibition was also held, showcasing the winning projects of the eight Tamayouz Excellence Award categories.
The ceremony started with the Omani national anthem and was opened by master of ceremony Rabab Al Lawati. Eng Fuad Al Kindi, Chairman of the Oman Society of Engineers, welcomed the guests on behalf of the host, The ceremony also featured speeches from the Academic Sponsor of Tamayouz Excellence Award. Coventry University, represented by the Dean of Engineering Professor Catherine Hobbs, the co-chairperson of the grand jury, Professor Jala Makhzoumi – American University of Beirut, and the Founding Director of Tamayouz Excellence Award Ahmed Al-Mallak.

Dr Amila Naji from the United Nations Global Compact and the representative of the Iraqi Business Council in Jordan spoke about volunteer work. Dr Bashar Shamil from the University of Technology of Baghdad spoke on behalf of the volunteer team.

The Middle East Coordinator of Tamayouz Excellence Award, Arch. Ossaid Al-Eitan, invited His Highness Sayyid Dr Fahad bin Al-Julanada, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Society of Engineers Eng. Fuad Al-Kindi, and the founder of Tamayouz Excellence Award Arch. Ahmed Al-Malak, to present shields to the sponsors of the award ceremony, including Petroleum Development Oman, Omantel, Oman LNG, Omran, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, Dewan Architects + Engineers, Coventry University, The Iraqi Business Council in Jordan, TKH Universities – Egypt, and Bonair Ltd.
The ceremony concluded with the prize giving of awards to the winners of the eight categories: International Graduation Projects, Women in Architecture and Construction Award in the Middle East and North Africa, The Middle Eastern Architectural Personality of the Year Award (The Mohamed Makiya Prize), the Rifat Chadirji Prize, the Dewan Award for Architecture, the Tamayouz Lifetime Achievement Award, Dia Al-Azzawi Prize for Public Art, and the Tamayouz Special Recognition Award.
